About This Class
Yin is a great way to reset your nervous system. Yin yoga applies an understanding of anatomy--particularly bone structure and deep tissues--to yoga practice. It emphasizes function over form. It's yoga that accounts for variations between individual bodies to reach the fascia that wraps muscle and continues into tendons and ligaments. After offering a few variations of a pose, you find the "shape" or modification that works for your body to gain the most benefit from your practice. When your body and mind become still, with time you allow everything to relax and stretch safely. This is what we mean when we find a "comfortable" place at your "edge," using props as necessary to practice safely. Time is the secret ingredient. You hold the pose without muscular effort ... and wait. The result: a much slower, much more meditative practice that can be challenging and incredibly calming: this is the "yin" to balance the "yang" of Ashtanga, Hatha, Vinyasa, and faster-paced yoga practices. NOTES: This deeply meditative practice is suitable for everyone. Mats and props provided.
